First of several 24 hour strikes by Unite members at Prysmian starts today in “determined fight for a decent pay rise”

Unite members working for Prysmian Cables in Wrexham will today start a series of 24 hour strikes throughout November and December.

The first of 8 days of scheduled strike action at the plant will see over 200 workers taking industrial action. They say the escalation of the dispute “follows an overtime ban is a result of the company’s failure to offer an acceptable pay increase for its workers”.

Unite General Secretary Sharon Graham commented, “Unite is determined to fight for a better deal for our members at Prysmian. This is a highly profitable global employer asking workers to agree a below inflation pay rise for 2021 following on from a pay freeze last year.

“Unite is now determined to fight for the jobs pay and conditions of our members so we will be backing the workers at Prysmian all the way.”

Unite Regional Co-ordinating Officer Tony Brady also commented: “Our members at Prysmian Cables have not received a pay increase since 2019 yet last year Prysmian Group made 840 million euros in profit.

“Feelings are running very high in the plant at this injustice and the workforce is determined to fight for a decent pay rise”
