Fingers crossed for Wrexham as Britain in Bloom judges make visit

The Britain in Bloom judges were welcomed to Wrexham recently as part of their tour to find the winner of their 2024 competition.

The judges called at several venues and gardens including Wrexham Crematorium, Wrexham Recycling Centre, Erlas Walled Garden, Rhosnesni High School and Wrexham City Centre.

And Wrexham did not disappoint with excellent floral displays along the route and examples of community involvement such as litter picks and garden competitions.

The city centre itself was amass with colour and spectacular floral displays which were complemented around the town with decorated bicycles to mark the recent Tour of Britain Women and bicycles donated from the Pedal Power Parade held recently.

The bicycles will all be part of a bike trail for children to follow around the City Centre as part of the Britain In Bloom celebrations.

As an extra special touch a Handkerchief tree was planted on Llwyn Isaf, also known as the Dove Tree due to its white flowers which flutter like doves or handkerchiefs, in the slightest breeze. The tree will grow into a fine, hardy specimen that will add to the already well established trees in the city centre.

Wrexham is the city representing the whole of Wales in the Britain in Bloom competition!

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy, said, “It was a pleasure to welcome the judges to Wrexham. There’s no doubt everyone has worked incredibly hard to make the wonderful displays along the route and I would like to take this opportunity to thank them for their fantastic effort on behalf of the whole of Wales and the county borough.

“We are very proud that Wrexham is the city that represents the whole of Wales in the Britain in Bloom competition..

“All we can do now is wait for the final judgement with fingers crossed but whatever the result Wrexham is certainly providing a beautiful welcome to residents and visitors alike.”
