Festive Fun Day and Wrexham’s Christmas Lights Switch On – November 18th

Wrexham Council say they are pleased to be working Nightingale House Hospice and Eagles Meadow to put on special events to mark the start of the Christmas season in the city centre!

As readers will be aware from the article at the weekend, the events start with Christmas Lantern Making Workships from 1 November at Tŷ Pawb in the Useful Art Space

Wednesday 1st November – 11.00am-3.00pm
Saturday 4th November – 1.00pm-3.00pm
Saturday 11th November – 1.00pm-3.00pm

Registration is £6 per child (accompanying adults go free) and you’ll receive a customisable paper lantern and battery tea light. Registering for these workshops also includes you in the Wrexham Lantern Parade on the 18th November.

18 November – Festive Fun Day on Queen’s Square

  • Festive Fairground and Stalls – from 11.00
  • Brass Bands Performing around the tree – throughout the day. The brass bands performing are City of Wrexham Brass Band, Wrexham Concert Band and Bellevue Community Band.
  • Lantern Making Workshop – 11.00am Onwards (You will need to register for this workshop through the Nightingale House Website above)
  • Carols around the tree – 4.00pm -4 .20pm
  • Lantern parade starts in Queen’s Square and finishes in Eagles Meadow.
  • Sponsored lantern walk will illuminate the city centre with the Christmas lights being switched on as the parade passes through each street.

Those who register and raised over £25 in sponsorship will be entered into a prize draw to win a voucher for Eagles Meadow shopping centre, which includes 3 months car parking, 4 Odeon tickets and 2 games of bowling for up to 6 people.

Staged Finale Event at Eagles Meadow – 5.00pm – 7.00pm

Eagles Meadow’s “Christmas Light Switch On” event starts at 3.00pm, those taking part in the Lantern Parade will be lead into Eagles Meadow at around 5.00pm.

Live music from Andy Bennett (Ocean Colour Scene), Dene Michaels (Black Lace) and Oceanic from 5.00pm onwards.

Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, said, “This promises to be a fantastic event and staff have worked hard along with our partners to ensure a magical start to the Festive Season.

“I hope as many families and visitors can join us to support the event and local businesses in the city centre.

“We are pleased to be supporting the Nightingale House hospice fundraising as it’s such a deserving essential charity within Wrexham.

“Also a special thanks to Eagles meadow for hosting the grand finale concert.”
