Police are warning shopkeepers and the public to be on their guard following a ‘spate’ of fake currency incidents across North Wales, including Wrexham yesterday.

Police say they have received six reports of fake £20 notes being handed over the counter in recent days.

On June 30th the fake currency was used at a shop in Penrhyndeudraeth High Street and at three shops in Bala High Street in Gwynedd.

Yesterday counterfeit £20 notes were used at a pub in Hope Flintshire and at two premises in Regent Street Wrexham.

Inspector Dewi Jones said: “We would urge shopkeepers and businesses to check that the notes they are given have the correct markings and to use Ultra Violet devices which can detect forged notes.

“If you are given counterfeit currency please call the police on 101.”
