Wrexham Council are “keen to see announcements” on the funding of several key projects in the Wrexham area that are ‘critical’ for the future of the town.

Wrexham Council Chief Executive Ian Bancroft was speaking to Wrexhan.com about ‘projects ready for funding’ in the county borough, citing the Wrexham Gateway project around the Mold Road / football stadium area, town centre regeneration projects, the A483 junction improvements and the local World Heritage Site.

Mr Bancroft said: “They are all significant pieces of capital investment that are critical to Wrexham’s future. It is the right time for these projects, and they are ready for allocations of capital funding by national government.

“We are pulling out all the stops to support the economy, and have plans ready for funding that others can invest in.”

The A483 is pencilled in for a new junction and a range of improvements, the gateway could see a new hotel and stand at the Racecourse along with other developments including a modern transport hub, a new national football museum looks set for the town’s museum, and the town centre set for future investment.

Wrexham Council Leader Mark Pritchard said: “I would hope there would be an announcement between now in the spring.

“I hope it’s going to be a big announcement for the projects. Everything is in place, we are just waiting really.”

Chief Executive Ian Bancroft added: “We have done everything we can as a council in terms of getting feasibility ready, showing that those are projects that are ready to go.”

“Investors now need to take decisions whether it’s Welsh or UK Government. Clearly things like the football ground has a UK and international perspective, in terms of it’s the oldest international football stadium in the world. The world heritage site, again, has a UK and international perspective.

“I think for us, it’s getting those projects ready, and then waiting for announcements that we would hope come because they’re critical to the future of Wrexham.”
