Wrexham’s public help and customer support system will begin its move to its new location in the city centre this week.

Contact Wrexham will close its doors on its Lord Street base for good on Friday 9 December.

Friday 9th of December is the final day that Contact Wrexham will be based at the Lord Street location.

From Monday December 12 Contact Wrexham will operate from The Guildhall (main entrance lobby) temporarily, until finally moving to its permanent home inside Wrexham Library (date to be announced in the New Year).

There will be no loss to service during this transition period.

The move of the service was announced earlier this year as part of Wrexham Council’s ICT & Digital Strategy 2020-23.

In March the local authority said the new location will “allow a focal point for customers to continue receiving face to face support and also encourage visits to the library itself.”

Many of Contact Wrexham’s services are available online 24 hours a day which remains the quickest and easiest way of access lots of services.

Contact Wrexham offers face to face appointments for the following services:

  • Blue badges
  • Council Tax
  • Housing Benefits
  • Planning
  • Companion bus passes

Cllr Beverley Parry Jones, Lead Member for corporate services said: “Other than the change of locations, we expect the transition period to have very little impact on customers wanting to visit Contact Wrexham, and once at the library, staff will be able to offer customers digital support at our bespoke self-serve area.”

Leader of Wrexham County Borough Council and Lead Member for Finance and Performance Cllr Mark Pritchard said: “The lease on our Lord Street location was due to finish towards the end of this month and a new location was sought.

“After spending a few weeks based at the Guildhall to ensure a continuation of service, the final location will be based at Wrexham library.

The library location is in close proximity to the Guildhall car park, making the service more accessible to people with mobility issues, as well as being free parking to blue badge holders.
