A community council has hit out following a spate of damage and antisocial behaviour at a local football pitch.

It comes after the goal posts at Bronwen’s Green football pitch, in Brymbo, were vandalised.

The incident was one of several to have taken place in recent months – including fly-tipping and damage to newly installed picnic benches.

Now Brymbo Community Council have spoken out about the vandalism and the cost of the ongoing repairs.

Cllr Paul Rogers, who represents Brymbo on Wrexham Council, said the financial impact of the damage is “running into thousands of pounds.”

“Over recent months we have seen an increase in anti social behaviour at Bronwen’s Green,” said Cllr Rogers.

“In addition to the ongoing issues with fly tipping, a number of picnic benches were damaged within weeks of them being installed, the defibrillator has been damaged on more than one occasion and last week a number of goalposts were vandalised.”

“Brymbo Community Council have worked tirelessly to improve this area for the community and local football teams. Unfortunately incidents like this cost the Council money which means that there’s less to spend on other things”

“The damage is running into thousands of pounds.”

Earlier this month a defibrillator at the football pitch was damaged.

Commenting on social media posts expressing concern about the incident, Cllr Rogers said: “Brymbo Community Council who funded the defibrillator are currently looking at relocating it to a nearby location in the hope that there will be a reduced risk of vandalism”

“Those acting in this way need to realise that this could have a serious impact upon someone’s life.

Councillor Rogers confirmed he had discussed the issue with the local PCSO and was going to raise the issue with secondary schools in the area adding that Brymbo and there had been a wave of incidents in the surrounding villages.

“These incidents are frustrating however not confined to Brymbo,” he added.

“From what I have seen on social media there is an ongoing wave of anti social behaviour in the Brymbo and Broughton areas.

“It needs to be acknowledged, incidents need to be reported and the police need to lead an approach working with Community Councils and partners to get a grip of this”
