City centre digital ad board plans submitted by Wrexham Council
New digital advertisement boards could soon be installed as part of new plans submitted by Wrexham Council.
The local authority has applied for planning permission to place a 65inch double sided digital poster outside of Primark, on Regent Street, and Boots Opticians on Hope Street.
The double sided boards are described as being weather proof, easy to maintain and vandal proof.
They also include an “integrated Android media player”, which will allow the user to update on-screen content via a USB plug and play.
A similar board is already in place on Eagles Meadow.
Earlier this year Wrexham Council unveiled proposals to utilise digital screens in the city centre as part of its Placemaking Plan.
Although several are located around the city centre, these boards and what they display will be controlled by the local authority.
One board has already been installed at the entrance to the Wrexham Library, with applications also expected to be submitted for High Street and Lord Street.
According to Wrexham Council: “It’s recognised that 83% of people remember content they’ve seen on social media compared to reading a poster or advert. This is because digital screens are so visual they capture people’s attention.
“They can be updated very quickly so people are aware of what’s going on and where. It may be a two for one at a coffee shop or a 10% discount off a meal for two.
“The screens will support the promotion of local businesses.
“Events can be included regularly and also updated if things change – something that can’t be done with a poster without the expense of re-doing it then having to take time to replace the out of date ones.”
Speaking earlier this year, Cllr Nigel Williams, Lead Member for Economy and Regeneration, said, “There’s no doubt that Wrexham is on the up and with major events and festivals taking place local businesses need a place to promote themselves to those visiting the area many for the first time.
“Digital screens do have advantages over traditional advertising methods and will be free to use. With all this in mind we hope to progress the plans and see them in place as soon as possible.
Wrexham Council say that subject to planning permission being granted, the screens will be installed imminently.
The application will be considered for approval by Wrexham Council at a later date.
