Christmas message from Wrexham’s MS, Lesley Griffiths
Wrexham.com has invited the Members of Parliament and Members of the Senedd for Wrexham and Clwyd South to share a Christmas message for our readers.
Lesley Griffiths, Wrexham’s Member of the Senedd
2023 has been busy and not without its challenges.
I wish I could be more optimistic heading into the New Year but budgets are being stretched like never before.
Earlier this week, the Welsh Government’s revealed its Draft Budget for next year is worth £1.3 billion less in real terms since it was set by the UK Government in 2021.
This means our treasured public services will not receive the level of funding we would want to see although the Welsh Government has done all it can to ensure as much of the budget as possible will be used to protect public services, help individuals facing the cost-of-living crisis and boost the economy.
Following Mark Drakeford’s recent announcement that he will be standing down as Leader of Welsh Labour and First Minister of Wales, I want to pay tribute to the way he has led our country through some of the most difficult and challenging times.
Mark’s compassion, integrity and commitment, particularly during the Covid-19 pandemic, was exceptional and it was a privilege to serve in his Cabinet.
Attention turns towards his successor and although Mark will be a tough act to follow, I am backing Jermey Miles MS to be Welsh Labour’s next Leader and First Minister.
Having worked with Jeremy in government, I believe he is the best person to lead us in what will continue to be very tough times.
Constituents continue to contact my office for support and assistance at an increased rate. As always, if you’re a constituent and there is something I can do to help, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
I wish Wrexham.com readers a peaceful Christmas and happy and healthy 2024. Nadolig Llawen.
