It has been 70 years since the School Crossing Patrol service was introduced in Wrexham.

Today the local authority manages 15 Schools Crossing Patrols (SCPs) – who are responsible for the safe crossing of children and pedestrians at the start and end of the school day.

If you’ve lived in Wrexham for a while you will probably have got to know a few of the SCPs (or ‘lollipop ladies/lollipop men’ as they were sometimes affectionately known) and there is now an invite open for people to share their memories from over the years.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member with responsibility for Road Safety, said: “The School Crossing Patrols do a fantastic job keeping everyone safe and this is a great opportunity to celebrate the work they do.

“All the SCPs will get a certificate this year to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee of the School Crossing Patrol service, in recognition of their dedication and service helping children in Wrexham to cross the road safely.”

You can share your memories of Wrexham’s School Crossing Patrols on the council’s social media pages!
