A campaign committee has been launched to bring a village play facility back to life.

Ruabon community councillor Donna O’Brien called the meeting after being involved in a clean-up of the area’s Multi-Use Games Area (MUGA) and surrounding area, which had become strewn with glass and litter.

The MUGA has been officially closed by the community council for a decade.

However according to Cllr O’Brien the site is used on a daily basis and there are growing demands to see it refurbished or replaced.

Following on from the meeting, which took place on September 11, a campaign committee has been launched to help bring the site back into life.

“We had a really positive discussion about the various options for the MUGA site to bring it back into use,” said Cllr O’Brien.

“We’re going to work with the community council, youth groups, schools, the football club and local businesses to see what’s wanted, what’s needed and what’s possible to achieve.

“We have also had some great ideas about funding a refurb or replacement MUGA and if anyone has any ideas or offers of help to make this happen, they’re welcome to come on board.

“There was extensive consultation by Ruabon Community Council with adults and children in 2022 and I’ve asked for the results of that to be made public.

“The project group is planning to get quotes for refurbishing as well as potentially replacing the site with more modern equipment.

“I’m looking forward to working with everyone to make this happen.”
