Shoppers across Wrexham have descended upon supermarkets and the town centre in the hope of getting a ‘Black Friday’ bargain.

Across the town centre there are a number of shops offering ‘Black Friday’ deals, including Argos, ASDA Living, GAME Mountain Warehouse, Savers and several shops on Eagles Meadow. The town centre itself is very busy today, with many seemingly making the most of the offers available. We even spotted a couple of people carrying TVs and microwaves!

In Wrexham supermarkets are believed to have been the busiest, with shoppers queuing up in the early hours of the morning for a Black Friday deal.

Ryan Partington tweeted Wrexham.com the above photo of Tesco, saying he queued for two and a half hours in the store for a Black Friday deal. While outside ASDA Living on Island Green there were barriers set up to help control the queues.

Dan tweeted Wrexham.com saying: “Queues and police presence outside ASDA Living in Wrexham, all for people who want to buy a Polaroid television.”

One employee of a local supermarket described the extra security measures brought in to cope this morning, and said at times the situation resembled ‘a war zone’.

We were also tweeted this photo of Tesco by Carla Small last night, who later added that the queue in the supermarket had ‘reached the end of the store and back again’.

‘Black Friday’ has been an annual event in America for a number of year and takes place the day after Thanksgiving. Generally Black Friday is regarded at the start of the Christmas shopping period, with stores having flash sales and offering large discounts on their products.

The event has taken place in the UK for the past few years, however this seems to be one of the first year’s which has seen the Black Friday really take off.

While many people went out to grab a bargain others queried when it would be safe to go to the supermarket to do their food shopping. One person said that they would leave their shopping until late afternoon as they didn’t fancy fighting over jars of Dolmio!

There had locally been reports that North Wales Police had been called out to local supermarkets, particularly Tesco. However a spokesperson for North Wales Police had confirmed they had not been called out to any Black Friday incidents.
