Olympic gymnastic star Beth Tweddle paid a visit to Queensway Stadium on Saturday to open the Wrexham Gymnastic Club’s Summer Fair

The Olympic bronze medal winner surprised the gymnasts when she arrived to help coach and offer tips to the gymnasts during their training session in the morning.

The club have recently spent £19,300 on a new sprung floor and equipment, and were delighted to find out that Beth Tweddle would be putting it to the test while visiting the club to open the Summer Fair. Along with the visit from Tweddle, football fans had the opportunity to see the FA Trophy that Wrexham FC won at Wembley.

Also in attendance was the Deputy Mayor of Wrexham, Alan Edwards and his wife Glenys, who welcomed Beth to Wrexham and together opened the summer fair.

Throughout the afternoon photographs and signed memorabilia were available from Beth Tweddle, along with photographs with the FA Trophy, a bbq, various stalls and an inflatable assault course. In total the event raised £489 for the club.

Following the summer fair, the 2013 Recreational gymnastics competition was held, with with medals awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd places and a certificate of participation for all entrants.

Head of Recreational Gymnastics, Alex Owen said: “These children train for one hour a week. They worked incredibly hard remembering their routines and the coaches and parents were very proud of all their achievements.

“Hopefully this has given them all confidence to carry on with the sport and keep working hard. A big well done to everyone who competed.”

“I would personally like to thank all the committee, parent helpers and members of the club for helping make this weekend so much fun and such a success.

Thanks were extended to Beth Tweddle, Wrexham FC for lending the FA Trophy, Councillor’s Alan Edwards, Ronnie Prince and to Steve Gilbert for also helping organising the FA Trophy.
