A major Wrexham nightclub in Wrexham city centre has closed after the company was forced to call in the administrators.

REKOM UK, operators of ATIK Wrexham, confirmed that the venue had closed as they said they were “forced to hand back the lease” after failing to reach an agreement with the landlord.

It comes after REKOM UK, which operates ATIK and Pryzm nightclubs, filed a ‘Notice of Intention (NoI) to appoint administrators earlier this month.

The company added that the late-night sector was facing an “extremely challenging” time amid rising energy bills, an increase in the cost of goods and a drop in demand in the young adult/student market due to the cost-of-living crisis.

ATIK Wrexham closed its doors for the final time this week, with website contents also being removed and social media going silent.

As a result of the closure the company said that sadly the ATIK Wrexham team had been made redundant.

Peter Marks, Chairman of REKOM UK: “Following a review of our business, we were unable to reach an agreement with our landlord and have been forced to hand back the lease of ATIK Wrexham.

“Sadly, this means the club has closed and our team has been made redundant.

“While we understand the impact this will have on the local late-night economy, it’s important to recognise that this decision follows an extremely difficult period for the sector, due to the combination of the cost-of-living crisis hitting younger generations and students particularly hard, as well as the rising costs including the national minimum wage which particularly affects Hospitality, alongside increased business rates and many other costs of operating.

“We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our guests and teams who have made ATIK Wrexham such an iconic venue for a great night out over the years.”
