Around 40 people gathered at The Arc sculpture on Lord Street this afternoon to hold a silent protest against Margaret Thatcher, whose funeral was held today.

Group ‘North Wales Against Cuts’ organised the silent vigil at The Arc as the sculpture is a representation the local industrial heritage and features a miner and a steelworker. The arch symbolises the co-operation between the industries to achieve common goals.

A semi circle formed around the sculpture.

Organisers said “This is not to mourn Thatcher but to remember the twin industries that we lost in Wrexham due to her policies and to pledge that we will continue to fight her legacy.”

After observing around two minutes of silence from 5pm speeches were made stating “The future is bleak, there are several youngsters here and I dread to think what things will be like for them when they grow up.”

A mock coffin was present along with various banners.

As well as the obvious criticism of Thatcher, ‘Blairism, Brownism and Cameronism’ were also mentioned as a ‘disgrace’.

Three policemen were present, and a pair of PCSO’s had timed a walk through the street for the start of the protest.

If you missed our video post on the day of Thatchers death we have copied it below, it shows Thatcher visiting the Whitegate ITEC in 1984 as Prime Minister and getting a warm welcome:
