Air raid siren to sound to mark start of Wrexham’s Armistice Day commemorations
An air raid siren will be sounded across Wrexham city centre this weekend to mark Armistice Day.
As part of the commemorations the siren, at Wrexham Museum, will be sounded at 11am on Saturday 11 November.
On a clear day the siren can sometimes be heard within a 2.5 mile radius of the city centre.
It will signal the start of a two-minute silence which will take place on Queens Square at 11am.
At 10.59am a bugler will sound the Last Post.
Members of the public are invited to attend the commemorations.
The next day (Sunday 12) will see local representatives, veterans, military personal and the public gather at Bodhyfryd for the Annual Service of Remembrance.
The memorial will start at 10:55am, with a bugler sounding the “Last Post” at 10:59am.
A two minute silence will be observed.
The public are advised that barriers will be put in place at 10:30am at the below locations to allow the parade to pass safely and to secure the surrounding area:
- Chester Street (adjacent to the former Feathers pub)
- Holt Street (by the Welch Fusilier pub)
- Chester Road (near the Chester Road/Powell Road roundabout)
Access to the Bodhyfryd Car Park adjacent to Waterworld will therefore be available only until 10.30am.
Facilities will be available for elderly, infirm or disabled persons to follow the service from inside the Memorial Hall.
You are invited to attend this very poignant event to remember those who fought and lost their lives during WW1, WW2 and subsequent conflicts.
