Dr Davies will join the University this summer, from his current position as Dean of the Faculty of Computing, Engineering and Science at the University of South Wales, where he has been responsible for the strategic direction and development of a large Faculty, comprising eight departments, covering all the science, engineering, technology and mathematics (STEM) disciplines.

Prior to his career at the University of South Wales, Paul worked in the construction industry, primarily on large-scale infrastructure developments, in both the public and private sectors.

Professor Maria Hinfelaar, Vice-Chancellor at Wrexham University, who will retire this summer, said: “I offer my warmest congratulations to Dr Davies on his appointment.

“I am confident that the legacy I leave behind here on my retirement will be in safe hands with our new Vice-Chancellor and Deputy Vice-Chancellor. I look forward to seeing the continued growth and evolution of our great University.”

Professor Joe Yates, who will join the University as Vice-Chancellor this summer said: “Paul was appointed after a robust and rigorous recruitment process and I am greatly looking forward to working with him and the rest of the Executive Team when we both take up our new positions at Wrexham University later this year.

“At interview, Paul demonstrated a clear commitment to the values, global outlook and commitment to providing the best possible education and experience for students that are central to the Wrexham ethos.”

Dr Davies said: “I am delighted to have been appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor of Wrexham University and I look forward to working with Professor Yates and the rest of the team, supporting our staff and students, at this exciting time in the evolution of the University.”

Dr Davies will take up the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor in early September 2024.
